He had no beauty, no majesty we could see
Nothing that we could desire, admire in him
He was despised and rejected, infected with
Suffering; called 'Man of Sorrow' by name.
We hid our faces; no traces of value were there
Chorus 1
Surely he took our infirmities
And our iniquities crushed him and laid him aside
Yet we considered him stricken and smitten
Pierced by our transgression, afflicted by God
Who could believe in him,
but by his wounds we are healed
Verse 2
We are like sheep who have gone astray, turned away
And God has laid on him everyone’s every sin.
Led like a lamb to the slaughter, a grave with no honour
No justice was done to him there.
As a result of his punishment, we can have peace.
Chorus 2
For he was nailed to the altar,
God made him to suffer and offer his life for our guilt!
He’ll see the light of life and shall be satisfied.
Many are justified – His Name is great!
Who could believe it! It’s True! By his death we shall live!
