Jonah's Rap

Now the Lord said to Jonah I've got a job for you
Go to Nineveh here's what to do
Tell the people I don't like what they're doing
If they live like that there'll be trouble brewing
But Jonah was scared and he scratched his head
If I go and say that I might wind up dead
He didn't take long to stop for reflection
He found a boat going in the other direction
Tarshish that's the place where I'll be
Far from God where He won't find me

Well not long after the boat set sail
There was blowing around a mighty gale
Storm force winds and waves like mountains
Water spouting up in great big fountains
Even the captain was shaking with fear
Grabbed hold of Jonah and said come here
I want to ask you a question or two
Is this all because of you

Well Jonah came clean and said I might as well admit
I'm running from the Lord I know I'm a twit
If you want to save the boat and not all drown
Chuck me in the sea and it will all calm down
So that's what they did Jonah went splosh
And he ended up having an unexpected wash

Then suddenly a massive fish he spied
Swimming up to him it's mouth open wide
Jonah's legs just turned to jelly
He landed in the fish's belly
It was wet it was cold it was dark as ink
And being a fish pooh it didn't half stink
Three days and nights he spent this way
Until he had the sense to pray
God I know you're always here when I call
Is there anything you can do at all
I know I've disobeyed and I'm a little moaner
Then the fish gave a burp and out shot Jonah

Boy said Jonah I'm free I'm free
Now I'll do what God told me
So off he went to Nineveh
And told them there'd be trouble
If you don't stop being bad this evil will be double
The people listened to what he said
Stop doing evil put God instead
God was listening to all they prayed
And the city got saved because Jonah had obeyed
